Honestly, some days I can't believe I'm a stay at home mom. In past lives I held a panda in China, spoke at a multi-racial solidarity march on Washington, participated in the first year of AmeriCorps, and was a pioneer on the internet (pre-www) in 1989. I have my Masters in education, am a confident public speaker, and love nothing more than organizing large events. The truth is that I managed to fill most of my pre-mommy time working (and volunteering) for the lowest paying jobs I could find that involved young people. As it turns out, being a stay at home mom isn't much different. It's hard work, long hours, tons of multi-tasking, and little to no glory or financial compensation. Luckily, I am passionate about my son (and my little gal who's on the way!), learning, giving back to the community, and having a lot of fun along the way. I have a few secrets to share with 80108 subscribers. First of all, music, books, toys, and events for kids don't have to be boring for mom and dad. Secondly, volunteer activities can be the least expensive form of entertainment around. Each week, I'll give you info on creative events for your family playtime as well as meaningful volunteer opportunities that are just plain fun and funky. Sometimes I'll do both at the same time!
